This week, Faults
in the Vaults examines the dangers of public transportation with a pairing
of action-crime-thrillers. We drop below 50mph and blow away Jan de Bont's adrenaline
powerhouse, Speed (1994), in order to
clear a path for Joseph Sargent's cerebral subway heist classic, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three
(1974).
The Mailbag culls the best of our listeners from the world of
Twitter. This Week in Torrents, Josh presents a vintage episode of SNL hosted by the late Walter Matthau,
with original commercials!
Another edition of Where
in the World Cinema? finds Mitch contining his tour of Italia with a lesson
on Giallo films in the form of 1987's Opera,
the Rock & Roll mystery slasher masterpiece from the Italian horror maestro
himself, Dario Argento!
Recycled Cinema
returns to take another look at Tony Scott's abysmally bloated and bland, big
budget remake of The Taking of Pelham 123(2009), starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta, and Felix Enriquez
Alcala's surprisingly watchable TV effort, TheTaking of Pelham One Two Three (1998), starring Edward James Olmos and
Vincent D'Onofrio.
Also in this episode, Josh begins festival submissions for
his new short film, Other Fish finds
a public release, and the guys regale with their coverage of this year's Rock and Roll Carnival fundraiser from
the awesome folks at Musack.org!
